I belong to a charity/social group called the Porcini club. The great thing about it was the networking with people of all ages (25-80). I had an elder member, who had retired as an exec at aerospace company, tell me:

"Why goof off during a 8 hour shift? At the end of the day, you've still been there for 8 hours. You might as well work and possibly get noticed."

He went on to say that most of the time (at least where he worked) people goof off. If you get 75% you are doing good. The people that put in their full shift, each day and every day, rarely stayed in their position for long. They eventually were promoted off of tedious line manufacturing jobs and into better positions quickly.

So congrats to SL to cultivating a go-getter work ethos.
