With the Cloud, anything will be accessible at anytime. It's definitely a sure fire way to ensure you can upload and handle anything you'd like for more self gratuitous purposes.

Skinman, I'd like to know who your editor was on this post. I know for a fact the word "loquacious" is not part of your vocabulary, nor do you know how to use it correctly in a sentence. :P

"The Cloud" is a little more than what "we've been using for years". It's nebulous for certain, but it is much much more than just some hardware.

For example, if done properly with a Cloud Server if the hardware crashes/fails you can have the server back up and running in a few minutes. If the same server were hosted entirely on dedicated hardware it could be hours/days before the server is back up.

The key component to any Cloud ____ is a nebulous storage repository for the data that allows you to access the data from any(with limits in some cases) hardware node. This provides data redundancy and reliability without the overhead of extra SAN/RAID/server storage. It's not perfect to be sure, but if the difference means that you have an extra layer of loss security vs having none wouldn't it be worth it?

That being said, as a good admin, you should ALWAYS have a working backup of anything that is imperative to your (or your clients) business.

As parents, I would imagine you would want to tell them the truth. And that is The Cloud is simply a marketing term coined by Hosting companies out of desparation I'm order to sell consumers services they either don't need or already have. Cloud backup (online backup), Virtualization (load balancing), SAS (Webmail) are all things we've been using for a long, long time. But because it is now "The Cloud," unintelligent and uninformed consumers feel they need to get it (and pay more for it). Companies are soaking it up, migrating their mission critical data to remote locations. The problem is, that Internet connection linking their office and their data is slow & unreliable. Thus, all the money they think the saved by outsourcing their storage needs, has put them in the red due to employee inefficiency. I can't wait for 911 to go the Cloud...can you imagine when the network goes down and the can't pull up any information to respond? Sad. Bravo to the marketers, but very shameful for companies to actually push this garbage.
